One of Washington’s most beautiful waterfalls blanketed with fresh snow as a full veil of water cascades into this incredibly formed forest pocket.
I remember this morning quite well. It was a bit nerve wracking being the first car driving on the winding forest road up here with 10 inches of fresh snow after a week straight of rain. If I got stuck it was likely I'd be the only person dumb enough to drive there that day and I was out of cell service range. But when I arrived at the parking lot, a sigh of relief came over me along with a smile across my face at what my eyes were seeing. I knew the potential for a special photograph was waiting in the woods.
I hiked down to the falls alone in a winter wonderland with the snow muffling any noise. It was so peaceful and quiet until I got close enough to hear the roaring falls. Coming around the bend I was thrilled beyond words to see a full curtain of water coming down. Which was something quite special and a very rare sight to see here as typically the right side of the falls is only a trickle.
The beauty that Mother Nature gives us often leaves me searching for the right words to describe it. I guess that’s why I prefer to use a camera to tell the tale. But I recall standing here smiling and feeling so content, all by myself looking at this perfectly gorgeous scene. Taking the sights and smells and sounds all into me. To be a part of me — in that one moment that I didn’t want to end. And I thought how fortunate I was to be standing there, just me, at my favorite waterfall in Washington with absolutely perfect winter conditions.
Moments like this are as ultimately "present" that I can be in a moment. Not thinking about anything else besides that exact place and time that I’m in on the big timeline that is my life. Moments that not only take my breath away, but quite literally make time stand still just briefly enough for me to understand precisely where I am in the universe and grand scheme of it all. And it is these moments that I strive for and hope to fill my life with.
