I had been photographing in the Great Smoky Mountains of Tennessee for about a week in the spring time when a surprise snow storm left the higher elevations covered with a fresh white coat of snow. On this morning we decided to head into Cades Cove and see how the dogwoods were looking at Sparks Lane. When I arrived I immediately saw that another dusting from the night before had hit the mountains in the distance and I was excited to see what else would develop. With the dogwood trees full of spring flower buds, I knew that once the sun crested the mountain ridge to the east that wonderful things could happen. And right on queue, the creeping sun rose and set the background trees on fire with an orange blaze. The perfect moment that I was waiting for.
