ALL NIGHT LONG

We had just about packed it in for the night. It was one o'clock in the morning, and the van was loaded with all our gear as we made plans for sunrise with my group of photography students. We had already spent some time at Vestrahorn, capturing nice images of the Milky Way and a streak of aurora in the sky. The group was a bit tired, and as we tried to figure out if and when we should head out for sunrise, a little more green began to appear above us. Then a little more, and a little more—soon it began to dance above our heads!
Quickly unpacking all the gear and setting everyone up, we found perfect reflections in the thin sheet of lagoon water in front of the mountain. The northern lights filled the entire sky over the silhouetted peaks and danced all night long! With laughter and a constant chorus of "wow" and "oh my god" from our delighted group, we photographed it all and rolled into the hotel as the sun began to rise. The Nordic Gods had made our plans into the early morning hours, leaving us with an extraordinary memory to treasure.
